Description:
When Battersea Borough was joined with Wandsworth Borough in 1965 the building was closed down and threatened with demolition, plans had already been drawn up to replace it with a swimming pool and a library, Through vigorous local campaigning the building was saved and given a grade II* listing in 1970. In the picture: Tom Collier, Mr Bikers and local architect's wife
