Photograph of Charlotte Despard, a write, suffragist, anti-vivisection activist and vegetarian.

When her husband died she took up charitable work and was shocked by the poverty in London, this led her to spend her time working for the poor in Battersea, Living in the area and was elected to the poor-law union as a poor law guardian.
