John Cooper Clarke
John Cooper Clarke was in the forefront of punk poetry in the 1970s. He was bought up in Salford and began performing in small clubs in Manchester.
John did not perform as regularly during the 1980s due to his heroin addiction however, he began performing and writing again in the mid-90s and has recently had a BBC biopic made about his life and work.
Many young artists and musicians have cited John as an inspiration including Plan B, who John as performed with, and the Arctic Monkeys who have published some of his poetry in the album sleeves.
John Cooper Clarke performed his poetry at BAC in 1980.
